GW-1516 (GW) is a compound known as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) modulator. PPARs mediate many biological processes and are being researched for their actions in the involved in the development of some known chronic diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis and obesity.

GW is an effective modulator of PPAR’s actions and has been found to be a key metabolic regulator showing many positive actions in tissues and processes such as lipid oxidisation and skeletal muscle.

A major finding with GW is its effects in preventing the down-regulation of AMPK caused by high-fat diets in the liver and has been found to amplify the PGC-1a-Lipin 1-PPAR pathway leading to increased fatty acid oxidation and enhanced fat-loss. This seems to be one of the most notable effects of GW and it goes hand in hand with providing cardiovascular protection in research subjects with obesity issues.

GW has been shown to have muscular protective and enhancing effects as well. GW has shown to decrease muscle inflammation and muscle damage in research subjects along with showing an increased gain in body and muscle weight in all treated research subjects administered GW.
