Important- History lesson # 2 from IC

    History lesson # 2

What are graham crackers made of?
They’re made of gram flour silly. But you say…. IC what the heck is gram flour? Well, it’s a type of flour that was promoted by a 19th century Presbyterian minister named Sylvester Graham, who was active in the temperance movement. He felt that eating a healthy diet could cure alcoholism and lead to a more wholesome life, so he traveled across the United States preaching the evils of eating meats and fats. This he was sure lead to sexual promiscuity. His answer to man’s ( and woman’s) lack of virtue was a diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole wheat bread made with graham flour in place of white bread -- more dietary fiber to strengthen society’s moral fiber!

Just in case any of you ever wondered.

Actually there are short inserts to many of the cook books that I have gotten over the years with little bit's of trivia here and there. Which is kind of interesting in it's on way.
