Coffee and cigarettes

I'm a light smoker, and I drink a lot of coffee. I'm curious as to whether or not these will have a negative impact on a beginner cycle. Any recommendations?

Tobacco is a vasoconstrictor (reduces circulation), and muscles need circulation for growth and recovery. More circulation means faster muscle growth.

"Caffeine acts as a stimulant, it has been proven that this stimulant actually constricts muscle growth. It does this by tightening the blood vessels. If something tightens the blood vessels then of course less blood will flow from the heart to the muscles. With less blood flowing from the heart to the muscles your body will not get it's needed amino acids as well as the protein it desperately needs to both during as well as after a tough workout." - Gerald Fitz

Hope this helps...

I say to quit them both for overall health... which in turn would lead to better results from your cycle

You will want to quit cigarettes for sure. If you have to have something, chew some nicotine gum once in a while. Even a few cigarettes a day are devestating to your endurance and will serious cut out some intensity out of your training.

I quit cigarettes myself actually this January as New Years Resolution. It sucks i loved my cigarettes but i know it can be done.

I really don't think coffee is too bad if you drink it in moderation. A cup in the morning to get you going is fine and is most likely not going to noticeably hinder your gains. Excessively drinking coffee throughout the day is bad though, not just for your muscles but for your heart as well.

Ok, that's just a pointless quote where something sounds true because it's scientific. In the real world though, coffee has never stopped anyone from putting on muscle.

I never said it was true... but, your quote of "In the real world though, coffee has never stopped anyone from putting on muscle" lacks any proof either....

... Caffeine is a widely used supplement in pre-contest dieting.

Oh silly me, I forgot that bodybuilders cut out coffee and all other caffeine containing substances in the offseason, because if they didn't, they would not put on as much muscle.

I can justify it because in the real world caffeine holds no representative interruption in muscle growth, but I'm sorry for going against your 'science'.

I never said it was science, but it certainly makes more sense than 'because alpmaster says so'

You're not very good at arguing are you.

Again, it's not 'because alpmaster says so', it's because caffeine use shows no measurable difference in muscle gain, as proven in real life by hundreds of thousands of bodybuilders who drink coffee and other caffeinated drinks and substances. You know I'm right and don't want to admit it, so we'll just leave it as:

Drink coffee at your own risk, may cause not-worth-mentioning decrease in muscular hypertrophy.

Again, unless you show me some testing to back it up, I am going to have to assume you are just seeing what you want to believe.

I am not arguing, as a matter of fact, I will withdraw from this conversation so you can feel like you won if thats what you want. If you want to continue smoking or drinking coffee.... whatever, its not going to hurt my feelings.

Take care.

doesnt nicotine increase metabolism? Wouldnt this help out after a meal? I myself have noticed a lack of endurance from smoking and think that I could do better by quitting. Damn, I love to smoke. I have heard that nicotine itself, not smoking the stuff, actually causes the lungs to take in less oxygen, so patches might not help

i would get rid of nicotine in every way shape or form.. not only does it kill you, it makes it harder to gain muscle, i mean you can still gain it, but not quiete as fast. I guess i just dont agree with using products thats primary function is self-destruction

smoke and drink coffee bro, it will not hinder ur first cycle.
if u are bulking, keep in mind that cigs will suppress ur appetite.

i smoke a pack a day and drink 4-5 pots of coffe a day. not saying everyone should do it but it wont affect ur cycle if u are hitting on everything else...meaning diet,training,cardio,rest..

Yes that was my point, smoking while eating will cause an immediate increase in metabolism. I was smoking only when eating, but I am under stress right now and am smoking wayy more than I was. I am sure I will have no problem stopping completely or going back to smoking with a purpose once I start my cycle though.
