I think glutamine is not really necessary needed as a supplement, if you use protein shakes the amino acid profile should be more than enough...

Glutamin is a free amimo acid and should be taken after exercise, for it boosts your bodys ability to produce gh and IGF-1.
take about 4-5g post w/o and,if you can afford it 4.5gr after you get up and prior to sleep best on empty stomach.
L-carnitn can be used as a booster if its taken 1 hour prior workout with caffein.Dose it abut 1g befor w/o and 3g/day for recovery(vasodilatation).

Still not necessary if your whey has a good glutamine profile in it. I'm with NSA on this!

Maybe,I´m just on my way trying Whey, but it´s highliy processed and therefore faster in absorption, which is essential for impact on Gh and IGF-1 production, especially after train and on empty stomach.

I use hydrolisat at the moment, which i´ve purchased cheap and I think it´s as effective as pure glutamin, maybe the whey is,too.

I´ve tested whey and I think a peptide of glutamin with a hydrolisated Protein is the way to go after the train or when needed.
I add some carbs though and it works best.
I spare the whey/protein for later on ,about 1h after this post workout
    drink.

I would avoid taking it after your workouts, for one your protein has it, and the protein itself will be fighting with the glutamine for receptors.

5g when you wakeup, 5g before you workout.
