    Amino pills and protein shakes

Are 10 g of say whey protein powder the same as 10 g of protein from amino acid pills? Coz, if they are, a shake has 30g of protein, which would make the amino acid pills uselles?!?!?In genereal, what is the difference between protein shakes and amino pills?

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Would you try to build a house w/ no nails? The protien in the shakes will help muscles grow much better and stronger if you supp w/ amino pills.

Amino acids are supplimented in either free form or branch chained. In either case, your body has to combine them to create a complete protein (that's why SOM said that aminos are the building blocks of protein). Protein suppliments are provided as a complete protein. If you mix 30g of protein and 30 gram of AA, you're not making one useless, because your body can take up, up to 50-60grams of protein at one time. When we say that, we mean your digestive system can filter out and absorb 50-60 grams of complete protein at one time (one meal), more than that and it just continues down the intestinal tract. If you mix the aminos with the protein, you are providing your body with the protien, if your body needs more protein, it will make more protein out of the aminos. If your body doesn't need any more protein, your body will use the amino acids to form other things that your body may need at that time. Proteins are not all created equal. HGH is really just a protein for example.

i asked milos sarchev the same question in response to an article he did for iron man magazine. he said "yes". 1 gram of aminos equals 1 gram of protein as far as your protein count is concerned. he followed up by saying that you need to get a least 1 gram of protein for each pound you weigh preferably more 1.5 or even 2.0. sorry to name drop but he had spent some time on the issue. he is very cool guy by the way.

1 gram of protein CAN equal 1 gram of aminos but it won't necessarily be that way. Since your body can use amino acids any way it wants, it can turn it into proteins that are not used by the mucles. The main thing is what kind of aminos you're taking. If you are taking 1 gram of free form aminos and 1 gram of whey protein, there is a huge difference. Most of the 1 gram of protein is going to make it into your blood and likely none of the 1 gram of free form amino acid is going to make it into your blood. So as I said, it can be equal, but not necessarily and more than likely won't actually be.

Also, if you're new to bodybuilding, then 1 gram is usually good enough, but when you become more advanced, then you need to move up to 2 grams per lb.

Some of the more expensive complete meal replacements such as CNC's Pro MR contain all the amino's we need including peptide bonded glutamine. Adding amino's to these kind of "shakes" would be a waste of cash.
