    constipation and whey protein

I read somewhere that whey protein tends to cause constipation. Anybody find this to be true? If so, are other forms of protein preferable in this regard?

It does bind you up. Once a day, I drink a glass of generic Metamucil that I bought for $3.50 at Wal-Mart everyday. It contains Psyllium Husk. If your a purest, you can buy pure Psyllium Husk at any health food store.

It's not a laxative, so no leakage or cramping. Everything comes out smoothly without having to strain. I've only tried limited amounts of soy protein (not enough to know how it effected my system), so I really don't know if other protein powders bind you up or not.

recommend buying refined protein... and most importantly don't ignore fiber content... the common 1-2 grams on most protein supps will not aid in your digestion. some suggestions are tri-o plex bars and all whole grain/organic/natural (less processed) sources...

Many people often have digestive problems when taking whey concentrate or whey blend protein. Isolate protein does not cause as many digestive problems, but is twice as expensive...

As for the constipation, if you eat enough green veggies and take in enough insoluble fiber, your digestive tract should function normlly...

What do you mean by "refined"? Isolate?
