I've heard people claiming that protein powder puts an unhealthy amount of strain on your liver. I can't see this being true, unless you're taking poor quality pwo. Also, the liver is very resilient and protein is far from a foreign, exogenous compound. Has anyone heard of this? If so, what kind of long term detriments have you heard of?
Your confusing the liver with the kidneys. A high amount of protein can be straining on the kidneys. But you would have to be ingesting ridiculous amounts of protein.Quote:

I have a sensitive liver, and my protein intake is between 200-300 g a day. The only time I notice any liver problems is if I eat a lot of deep fried foods. I guess upping your milk thistle intake wouldn't hurt.
Kidneys are strained alot more than your liver is by protein. You would have kidney problems before you would have liver problems, unless your liver is already damaged.
A ridiculous amount of protein would be 2+ grams/lb. of body weight.
