I would say that Optimum's 100% Whey Protein is the best quality protein in the world for the best price. Sure, there are cheaper proteins out there, but if I had to choose the best one with a reasoning of cost/quality ratio, my choice is ON's 100% Whey.

What makes chicken breast protein better than a high quaility powder? Ive never heard anyone say that before, so im curious about the "better for you" comment. And gram for gram of protein, im not sure chicken would be cheaper. Not where i shop anyways.

100% whey vanilla mixed with Silk Vannilla soy milk has been the best for me so far. Big ole ten lb. bag. Mixes great. I also blend All Bran into powder and add a heaping table spoon to my shake for a great flavor and much needed fiber.

It is always better to get your protein from whole foods, supplements are good for just that...supplementing. Don't get me wrong, I use myoplex, but the majority of my proteins come from whole foods such as chicken, lunch meat, beef etc.

I personally trust Optimum Whey Protein. It's one of the most trusted and most popular on the market.

Either that or I would go with Isopure.

Both taste pretty good...or at least as good as you would expect a protein shake to taste.

So gram for gram of just protein, what makes chicken(or meat etc.) protein better than a scoop of powder? I guess i dont get it.

Supplements are for supplementing, but i dont consider protein as much as a supplement as I do a food. It can be less expensive, easier to digest(at least a good protein powder) and could let you avoid fats, fillers, bi products, salts etc. I mean, other nutrients in a food might make the entire food value better, but gram for gram of just protein content, Id need more than "it is always better". Why?

Im lazy right now as its 1am, but if anyone wants to do a protein break down of how much you would have to spend on chicken breast to get the same amount of protein in a 10lb. bag of Optimum( or any other good brand)whey.

Im not suggesting that getting your protein from whole food sources is a bad thing, id say just the opposite. But I am suggesting that its not necessarily "always better".

i dunno i used to drink 4 protein shakes a day, now i have 3 at most and thats on a workout day. pre and post workout and in the morning when i get up. and on non workout day just in the mornin. now i eat a lot more whole foods to get my protein. Jack Rabbit is rite in my opinion. i always try to get my protein from whole foods, rather than a protein shakes if possible.

a basic reason why solid foods are better is because protein from them are aborbed better in the body....whey protein is in and out of your gut in 1.5 hours and all the nutrients may not get abosorbed due to its quick digestion.

Liquid is digested faster than food is.

Solid food stays in the body longer.

Plus, solid food also requires your body to use energy burning it up in your system and keeps you full which helps keep your metabolism high. It's kind of a win-win situation.

The protein shakes definitly help, don't get me wrong. But I try to get as much solid protein into my body that I can and then up my numbers with the protein shakes.
