ALCAR is more suited for oral absorbtion and has slightly different properties regular carnitine is only worthwhile injected.

They are both the same thing, however one has been modified for superior oral use.

mostly yes and and slightly no. acetyl-l-carnitine is definitely superior for oral use, but it also has own distinct and indepenent activity (different from carnitine)- as well as being an acetyl-group and carnitine donor

Both are somewhat similar in what they do. However, Acetyl-L-Carnitine is more readily used by the body as it easily crosses the blood brain barrier. This allows it to be more easily and quickly absorbed by the brain and converted to energy. It's often taken to enhance cognitive function, and is also often taken as people begin to age to prevent degeneration of the brain. It also help boost cellular energy and as antioxidant effects. So between the two, ALCAR is more readily absorbed by the body and more easily used.
