Why is everybody's pre-bedtime meal a whey shake?

For all you haters out there, whey protein is pretty much junk for a pre-bedtime meal. That stuff is assimilated into your muscle so fast, that even before you begin to nod off, your body is already begininning to catabolize itself. My advice is to drop the shake, and get some steak. . Steak is one of the slowest releasing proteins, and is very good for you. For the people who say "It's too fattening, I'm going to have cholesterol problems." Eat it. No pun intended. Eye of Round steak has 4-4.5 grams of fat per three ounces and 24 grams of protein. It's delicious, plus, your muscles will thank you.

BTW, when you wake up at night to go to the bathroom, have a quick casein shake, or if dieting, 10-15grams of glutamine will suffice until the morning.

    Have a nice day.

    PPP,

i like your advise....and have and will follow it in the future. I actually used to go with a egg hite omelet w/shrimp. But the point is i like the idea of a slower releasing meal before bed. The glitamine trick Ill try if I can remember.

    thanks

I'm beginning to think that PaPaPumP is being paid by the pro-beef advocates. I'll bet every time he mentions "steak" he gets a cow delivered to his house. I like chicken! (truckload of chickens backs into my driveway)

Sorry PaPa Im gonna have to disagree with you! A good Filet is the way to go LOL

I always have some Filet left over and its great for that on time 3 in the morning pisser that comes. Whey Protein is great to keep your protein up morning and before dinner or even work out. At least it works for me.
But if your dieting or worrying about carbs then cut up some celery infact a bunch of it and put in the fridge with some water in a tuberware for that late night munchy attack. Its 90% water. And real easy to get use to
    That came from Tobey

    God I love steak!

I buy the good ole cert Angus beef 16-20 oz

I could eat one for every meal

but when it's bedtime I usually have my eggwhites with some
    1% milk

The banana's a good idea for the tryptophan though

    Beef it's whats for dinner!

On the whey thing however, I don't want my body working too hard digesting protein when it should be at REST. I personally like a couple scoops of whey and that's it. Solid protein like beef takes a lot more time and effort to digest and I risk storing fat as my body slows while at rest. That's my .02.

I think a couple of yall aren't comprehending me. I am not AGAINST whey protein, in fact, i love the stuff....post workout, and when i wake up...the two most catabolic times of the day. Quick aminos=Muscles quick. I am not trying to change anybody's ways, just throwin in my advice. If you wanna shake before bed, get some egg protein...casein, a mixture of whey, egg, and casein- or just do whatever the hell you want and tell me to shut up.

    this may be our answer

I totally agree on finding a protein that has a slower release time...for those of you who didn't know there is a new product just advertised in the feb issue of muscle and fitness...this is supposed to help us with the protein at night problem.

these products are called SomnaBol-PM(with NirtoVarin)Nighttime protein/mineral complex
info can be found at www.KleinBeckerSport.com

    Night Charger(with NirtoVarin)
Nighttime protein/mineral complex info can be found at www.UrbanBiologics.com

    and NirtoVarin-PLS Nighttime protein
info can be found at www.NutraSportOnline.com

hope this all helps everyone..I am personally going to do a little more research on it myself before i try it out...

    enjoy

I'm interested to hear what Swole has to say about this. I'd hate to think my ProBlend 55 shake before bed is useless.

Whey protien gives me a serious energy rush that keeps me from sleepig properly. Why use fast acting protein before an 8 hour fast? Tuna, cottage cheese, or eggs are a better choice for me.
