To drink or not to drink a recovery..

shake during a workout. I have always read to drink it after a workout. In the December mag of Muscle & Fitness it says to sip on a recovery drink before, during and finish after workout. It says it is important to do this b/c when you are lifting to failure your GH rises and the sugars in the drink will transport the Gh directly to you r muscles, plus it lowers your cortisol levels. So what do you guys think is best, during or after?? Also in their recovery shake they used Vitargo and said it was far more superior than dextrose, and also said to use whey hydrolysate.

In my shake I drink 2 scoops of whey protein, 1 serving creatine , and 1 serving of dextrose. Do I need to cosider these supplements they are mentioning? Is there that much difference in the way of transport?

Your supposed to have a ratio of 1 part protein to 2 part sugar in your PWO shake also. I don't know what one serving of dextrose means, but thought you might want to check the ratios.

yeah I got that. I take 43 grams protein and 80 grams carbs. ! serving is 40 grams dextrose.

The question I was really asking is Vitargo that great. I've only heard of it a few times.

Here is some info on vitargo. It doesn't say why it's better, just that it is, with lots of proprietary words. I'm guessing it has maltodextrin in it along with the dextrose.

Here is a copy of the label for vitargo. Looks like no maltodextrin, just more special patented non-sugar carbs.

I'll have to see some actual research on this before I fork out the dough for it.

Garbage garbage garbage garbage to infinity. This is nothing creatine monohydrate, dextrose, and a modified ALA transport wont do at one tenth of the price.

I think the main question was "while" working out or "after" wo.
I think the answer is starting after 30/40 minutes of workout when cortisol starts working.

If the question is before or after then the answer to that question is immediately after a weight intensive workout. It should be taken concurrently with whey protein.
