    DHEA for Women

My wife is 40 years old and is running in her first marathon in January. My question is "How much DHEA should a women consume on a daily basics?" Does DHEA increase there sex drive? (please tell me YES ).
I did do a search and could find nothing to support my questions.

DHEA does show some conversion to testosterone in women. This should increase her sex drive a bit. How much it will help her for her marathon I do not know. I would imagine that 50-100 mg per day would suffice.

Thanks Breastman. Anyone else want to add to the thread? Any info on DHEA for women is welcome.

The avg. daily dose of DHEA for men is 50mg. I would cut it to 25-35 mg a day tops for women.

Great, now I have 2 different opinions that are not even close on the dosage. I could really use some help here before I either overdose or underdose the wife.
What would happen if she got way too much DHEA in her system? Beard?

50 mg is a very conservative dose and would be more "therapeutic" rather than perfomance enhancing. At 50 mg per day, you wouldn't even know you were taking anything. I'll tell you what...to be "safe," start her at 50 mg for 2 weeks and see how she feels. Then, if all is well you can bump it up by 25 mg each of the next 2 weeks until she hits 100 mg per day. Finally, have her taper down just as she went up.

Doctors have stated that more than 25mg a day should only be used by women with systemic lupus erythematosus. Taking 50mg a day to start is ridiculous. That can cause serious adverse health reactions.

Most people do not need to supplement DHEA. The question of who should take this hormone remains controversial. Some experts believe that daily intakes of 15–25 mg of DHEA for women and 30-50 mg for men are appropriate amounts for people with deficient blood levels of DHEA or DHEAS.

I think I'll let you and Breastman hash this out. I just need to know the best route to take. All this info is great.

Too much of anything good can be harmful. I heard from my doctor a while back that it can interfer with blood cell regulation in your body if you take too much. Too much I am assuming is 100mg's and up everyday.
