    Cardio

When comparing jogging for half an hour or walking for an hour, do you burn the same amount of calories? Which one is most effective for cutting?

you will burn more calories jogging, but you will burn more fat walking (assuming 70% of THR)

if your goal is fat loss, i would stick to walking for an hour unless you want to lose some muscle with jogging.

Not true. You will burn a higher percentage of your total calories from fat if you walk (lower intensity). However, you will burn more total calories and more fat calories if you run, but it will be a lower percentage of fat calories. Very true if you are looking to minimize muslce wasting, stick to low intensity, longer duration cardio.

For most people its 6 of one and half dozen of the other. Most people's jogging's intensity won't be to a level where you'll enter a catabolic state. Personally I prefer a jog as I believe cardio fitness is the foundation on which everything else should be built on.

I believe that to. I jog so slow that I bet I'm right there at the THR of 65-70%. I do three miles a day if I can, a mile minimum and a half hour brisk walk if I only do a mile. The three miles takes me about 40 minutes.

I think it depends on your family history of heart problems and your diet. If you have healthy BP and HR to start with, then it will take more than brisk paced walking to get up between that 65-70% THR.

I have to alternate btw walking and jogging too, to keep my HR at 65-70% of max. For some reason, I find it easier to keep my HR at the proper level when roller blading.

The mode required to acheive your THR is fitness dependent. It all depends on your functional capacity (VO2 Max).

Keep your HR at 60 - 70% of your Heart Rate Reserve or Max Heart Rate. I like Heart Rate Reserve because it includes your resting heart which relfects your fitness level.
Lower RHR means the better in shape your are aerobically due to a higher stroke volume. Anyhow, keep it in that range for 40-60 minutes in the a.m. on a empty stomach is the consensus around here. You can burn more kcal by doing it harder, but you will risk catabolism. Also, intensity and duration share an inverse relationship.

You'd really be surprised. I've been running for 7 years or so and have even done a marathon. My heart rate is up to 140-150 within the first 2 minutes of jogging.

i agree completely with what you said. personally, i jog usually at a 6.5-7.0 mph pace for a good 45 mins. I play sports so it really comes into play.

I'll also jog at least a mile and then walk for the rest of the time, 4.0mph pace at a 15.0 incline

I think interval training works best for cutting. For example, I walk at a fast pace for a minute then sprint for 30 seconds for 30 minutes at a time.
