    Unhappy Proper Dips technigue?

****. I think i been doin my dips wrong. I always did them with the bars facing out, but then i saw one of the trainers at the gym doing them facing inward.

I know some gyms have parrellel dip machines, but the one at my gym has them slanted out.
    So which is right?

I don't get what you mean facing "out" or "inwards". You mean your palms?

And to hit your tri's, try and keep your elbows real close and parrallel with your body. Pecs, face them more out and perpindicular with your body.

I think he means facing out/inwards on v-shaped dip bar.

On v-shaped dip bar: chest: grip should not be to close. lean abit forward. chin on chest. look down slowly dip down and the forcefully push up. Id recommend face inwards.
Triceps: pretty close grip. try to stay upright, sometimes helps looking forward. Id face inwards here to.

parallel grip: only difference is that for chest you lean forward and "crunch with chest" and for triceps stay upright and focus with your mind on your triceps doing the pushing.

And always try to avoid kicking around with your legs or swinging your hips.

yeah, i have one of those v shaped bars. I was doin it more for triceps.

Do you know if it would be wrong necessarily to face the other way?

no, not necessarily...it depends on if you feel it in your triceps, and feels good.
I dont think its such a big deal.
    Good luck

    (in my humble opinion)

It's not wrong to face one way or the other but it will change the biomechanics of the exercise assuming you are using V-shaped dipping bars. A change in the orientation of your wrists will follow through to the elbows and will tend to affect the extent of forward lean.

If you are facing the V, ie the bars in front of you are narrowing, you will tend to flare your elbows outward and lean forward to a greater degree which will place a greater emphasis on your chest.

If you are back to the V, ie the bars in front of you are widening, you will tend to keep your elbows inward and tend to remain more upright which will place a greater emphasis on your triceps.

None is neccesarily right or wrong, they all cause you to concentrate on different parts.
