    Board presses?

My doctor told me to do these as part of my rehab proggy. Said to take three 2x4" blocks and tape them together for about a total of 3". Then load up 225 and go for three sets of 5 reps. Am I aloud to touch and go, or do I have to make a complete stop and then press up?
I didn't have the board ready today, so I got in the squat rack and set up a bench with the safety pins about six inches from my chest. Probably only 4 inches, but I did it any way. First set I made a complete stop and then back up. This tore me up pretty good. Then next set I bounced or "touch and go" and some gym rat told me I was suposed to make a complete stop. So the next set I did stop. I was arching my back pretty good that last set.

I'm not sure about the rehab benefits of it, but I think it's more effective to 'sink and heave' than to 'touch and go' on this movement. How do you mean it tore you up pretty good? Pin presses and board presses are very different, even though it may not seem that way to someone that hasn't done both. The safety pins in the power rack will definitely tear up your joints fast.

That's really cool that your doc recommended board presses.

Well, it made me very tired is what I mean tore me up. I had fun bouncing it. Boing-boing-up. Or just boing-up. I could almost hear stuff ripping when I stopped dead and then pushed back up. Maybe I'll just back 'er down to 215 and do "sink and heave".

**** I honestly would have never thought a doctor would suggest these for rehab. I use these in the winter time strictly for POWER.

I dunno man. All I can say is that I only use this technique in the winter time, because I drop my cals through the summer. I don't see the benefits by using them for rehab. I use them in addition for my power training. They are a good way of getting used to heavy weight.

The exercises that rehab specialists recommend seem ridiculous sometimes. But, they work. Don't change your form. Do it exactly as you were told. Remember that you are tyring to get better, so don't get carried away and over do it.

    BTW...Get well soon!

Thanks. I hope so. I guess it is to get used to the heavy weight. I seems to hurt more when I do less weight an go all the way to my chest. Like when I do two to three reps at 225 or heavier. When I stop completely at the board or pin and then press back up. I do feel some uncormfortable sensation at the point of injury (upper pec point of insertion). Hope he knows what he's doin'. I don't want it to get worse or have to get surgery.
