deadlifts
i avoid doing deadlifts because of a back injury. Is there any other exercises i could do other than those which are just as effective because everyone says deadlifts are really good and recommends doing them

There is no other ONE exercise to replace what the dead will do. You need to do individual exercise to target all the muscles used in that compound movement. Depending on your serverity of back injury you may wish to try the cable movement dupilcating the dead form using lighter weight. Just realize this is not the best compared to the BB.

Hyperextensions might help, but nothing is as good as deads.

Good mornings maybe or the hyperextension machines where you raise your legs and your back is stationary. I've had a couple of nasty back injuries and I still deadlift and have no probs. Just start out very light get the form down perfect and very slowly and carefully add weight.
