    Arnold presses for shoulder impingement

I have a shoulder impingement in my shoulder, it isn't too bad now but it can bother me once in a while. I was told that arnold presses are ALOT safer for you than dumbell shoulder presses because it puts less stress on your rotator cuff but still builds the front delt nicely. Is this ture?

What are your guys experiences with arnold presses?

    1) Are they safer and less painful than dumbell shoulder presses if you suffer from shoulder impingement syndrome?

    2) Are they an effective front delt building exercise?

Anatomically speaking, every time you push up or pull down with your elbows way back (so the weight is in back of your neck), the rotator cuff and/or the acromioclavicular joint is in a weak and VERY vulnerable condition.
Exercises like the lat pulldown behind the neck and the military press behind the neck are notorious for causing and/or exacerbating rotator cuff injuries. Dumbbell presses with the elbows even with the head are marginally better, but the "Arnold" press in which the elbows are forward, are superior in the protection of the rotator cuff assembly.

So, atleast according to Duck of Death, the info I heard was correct (arnold presses being safer).

Wrong. The turning of the dumbbells in the "arnold" press is purely a function of the ulna and radius assembly in the FOREARMS. It does not involve the rotator cuff unit at all.
