    Deadlift Question

I have 2 ruptured dics in my back and I just started doing dead lifts. I'm starting out light to get the feel and see if my back will tolerate them. Have you ever seen one of those olympic barbells that have the "U" in the middle. The bar is not totally straight from end to end. In the middle the metal forms a "U". Its hard to explain. Well I've been using the bar for the deadlifts b/c I feel I can keep my back straighter and my legs in a better position. Does anyone see any reason why using the "U" bar would change the effectiveness of the movement?

I use it for shrugs too. That's how I noticed maybe it would work for deads. The movement feels great b/c my hands are kind of at the sides of my legs, not in front of my legs.

I use the hex (trap) bar for deads--keeps the body centered and no scraped shins
