Also...do you need ankle support, in which case flip-flops, or low-cut shoes (like running shoes) have none to almost none....

NIKE SHOX SUCK ASS
I had a pair and every time I would do squat or deadlift with 300-400 pounds the backs would compress all the way and make me very unbalanced... I guess they're OK if you lift light weight or don't do these lifts at all.

I like to lift barefoot for squats and deadlifts....when I can get away with it.

Yeah, don't wear Shox or any type of shoes that can be compressed in the heel area when squatting. You will waste your drive on compressing the sole before you accelerate upward.

Don't make a bit of difference what you wear. Lift heavy.

By dropping weights I mean a freak accident, you know, like a guy next to you having a stroke and dropping his weight on your foot. Smth. like that. Not being a skinny cross-country type, going for the largest dumbell, heaving it high and dropping it. Plus...there has to be some biomechanics involved in any activity. And, since a couple of guys said Nike Shox compress, I think I see why they make powerlifting shoes with wooden soles. I mean, if you wear sprinter spikes to play basketball, you're gonna break your ankle, right?

i just wear any training shoes, not boots or anything, simple fact, dnt drop the weights, use ur muscles to control them and it wont matter if u wear boots or flip flops!!

you see...taking a narrow minded approach: you control your diet, don't you? I mean rat meat probably has protein, but I bet noone here eats rat steak regularily. All I'm saying, every aspect of training has specifics about it.

I'm from Utah. What I was trying to say, is that a couple of bros wrote that when they wear Shox and do squats or deadlifts, the shox units compress, thus making nike shox not suitable for powerlifting. You see? However, you can use them in a pinch. By the same rationale, you could eat rat meat (lab rats, or smth. like that, which doesn't have any disease in it) for protein. You know, mealworm and crickets has a lot of protein per pound (another thing I learned at BYU, in an entomology class. I even tried cricket chili there once- the teacher had a "bug cookoff" once). I guess if one thing is to be gathered from my spiel it's that you cannot concentrate on one part of an activity ( technique, diet) while ignoring the other ( safety, comfort )

If you're doing arm curls or dips then by all means wear the pump-action-velcro-fly-I'm-walking-on-air nikes. hahahaha

Actually, I prefer floppy 80's style high-top reeboks....crank up the whitesnake. And, you know what...as far as flat soles go - if it works ( say you're wearing converses, I actually own a pair, and have worn them) and they don't compress like shox would, you have a solid base, and are able to keep balance - that's sounds pretty comfortable to me So, in so many words juggernaut, I ageree.
