You cannot spot reduce. Doing those side-oriented exercises such as crunches and side bends are pointless at reducing the amount of fat stored in the love handles. Cardio and diet are the only effective ways (perhaps Yohimbe can help though). As a matter of fact, overdoing those side exercises can very often INCREASE the love handle size as it enlarges the obliques and muscles lying under the handles thus forcing them out.

Listen I am not here looking to pick any fights, it's not in my nature, so please don't take this the wrong way: with your comment "turning the fat into more muscle" it obviously shows you have no clue how the body works. You cannot turn fat into muscle, period. You cannot spot reduce, period. Search to your heart's content for articles, experiments, research etc. and you will find this to be the case. It is like saying that doing 1000 crunches a day will turn a beer belly into a sixpack - I don't think so.

no such thing as spot reduction. Diet is the only thing that will get rid of those love handles.

crunches, weighted or nonweighted builds abs, obliques, by just doing crunches to loose your love handles you want get the results your wanting without a sound diet and low intensity cardio. Low intensity cardio if done correctly will not burn muscle.
