Use a different machine, when walking it will be below 117. But a slow jog goes higher best thing to do is just use another machine.

I am 25 and your target HR is 146, i use the Elliptical's and i sweat my ass off. I am constantly monitoring my HR generally staying around 55 rpm's....

If you have'nt already, think about adding some Glutamine before cardio.

It is true, by walking on an incline (3.8 to 4.2 MPH) will get your MHR in the correct range.

Supposedly it is anti-catabolic. However, the only evidence for this is on bed-ridden ill people. There is a substantial body of evidence indicating oral supplementation of L-glutamine has no effect whatsoever on healthy adults. If you already bought some, just use it up. If not, save your money.
