Heavy leg presses kill my ankles

My ankles are pretty dainty (8 1/2") so they probably just arent designed to handle huge poundages. When i was up to 800lbs+ they hurt like i had actually broken them after a set. Anyone suffer the same problem? Apart from going lighter and increacing the reps i cant think what to do

It sounds like just one of those pains in the azzes we have to put up with. My wrists hurt when I do heavy bench...I guess it just comes with the territory.
My ankles also hurt when I do calve raises and leg presses heavily due to previous injuries.

No i dont agree that you should do things that actually hurt you. Im only 21 i dont want to develop probems in later life due to being stupid now. And when i say it feel like its broken it doenst start hurting till i rack teh weight and take the pressure off it then it begins to hurt. And i mean excrciating pain for a few minutes.

Sounds like what happens to my forearms/wrists when I set the bar down after doing barbell or preacher curls... but that only hurts for 15 seconds tops.

Switch to squats, I bet you it's the angle the leg press is putting your ankles at that's the problem. I swear leg presses and smith machines are the devil for bad biomechanics.

I already squat on my squat day. But i do think you may have something here. I think it depends on the leg press you are using. THe one i used im my old gym was perfect. I facillitated really smooth and deep reps. never had any ankle pain at all. This one makes me feel all closed and cramped and the action itself feels far less natural.

Archiles tendon is too stiff. Limits the ROM range of motion/travel.

Nope thats not it at all. My achillies are very flexiple and i have a very good ROM thanks to doing gymnastics as a kid. Is a pain in the ankle joint itself.
