    i want high traps

Do yall think where you grip the bar for shrugs, wether it be wide or close, would have any effect on your traps. Ive been doing heavy deads and added power cleans about a month ago and im starting to see some good results but i want more. The kind of traps I am shooting for is the ones that batista has!

No, the spacing of your grip won't really have an effect on the shape of your traps. You will find that some grips will allow you to use more weight, i.e. put you in a stronger position.

All that being said, shrugs are a must for big traps.

Honestly, it's personal preference. I prefer BB.

same question, my shouldres are starting to get wider and my chest as well, and my traps are well, lagging, they dont feel hard or look pumpd, i do shrugs but i dont really get a good build off it, is there anything else? the shrug to me feels like the calv raise, ( thats me trying to put it in perspective ) as far as growth for the muscle lol

I like the DB shrugs but heavy deadlifts are really what works my traps.

DBs are better IMO, you can rotate your shoulders front to back and really smoke your traps.

I'm actually gonna try those 1 handed, never though of that *Hit self on head*

i wouldn't rotate shoulders due to rotator cuff injuries

try holding the db or bb at the peak for a 10 sec count on all your reps rather than just shrugging your shoulders up and down rapidly like i see so many people do.

Shrugs are okay, but IMO deadlifts will work the traps much harder and put the most mass on. It seems like a lot of the guys at the gym that recomend shrugs for building mass on the trapz are the same guys who dont deadlift at all. If you've ever done a hardcore set of deads and your traps aren't sore then you're probably doing them wrong.

Don't foget that a lot of this is genetics.

My buddy has a great physique, totally sick, but his traps are the LAST to grow and it's his worst bodypart. Me on the other hand, I do 4 sets of d-bell shrugs a week as they are a naturally superior bodypart, and I get compliments on them all the time.

I do 4 sets of 12 really heavy on the standing calf raises.

I get on the standing calf raise machine and stand straight up, and shrug the part of the machine that lays on my shoulders. Basically pushing it up w/ my shoulders, kind of like a push shrug instead of a pull.

No one has mentioned upright rows. I think they work better for height. Shrugs for thickness

you dont count.. what dont you get compliments on??

seriously though I used the calf raise machine and stacked on 2-45's along with the whole rack and stood flat footed and just raised my shoulders. that blew mine up. you dont have to worry about grip that way. i also do the behind the back BB shrugs but not on the smith.
