what are the so called "Big 5" exercises and why are they so important ?

when people talk about the Big 5 exercises for putting on mass, what are they talking about, why are they so important and how do they work? should they be included in every weekly workout ?

The big 5 is the only way to go. Builds your body like a tank. Give you a "core" that you cant get i think any other way.
