Cardio
I've decided that I need to start getting more serious about the cardio part of my workout. Previously I have only done 5 min set at medium level (.7 miles) as a warm up to weight training but want to lean out some and increase my endurance, etc. My machine of choice is the eliptical stepper and was wondering if it's better to pace yourself (slow down) so as to make your time on the machine last say 30 min. and cover approx 2.5 miles or go for speed and distance ie: 2 miles in 15 min. Since the idea is to get your heart pumping either would do that but which is more effective? Thanks.

I would go moderate intensity for 30-45 minutes.

ditto, just keep your heartrate between 65-75% of your Max Heart Rate

How do I know what my max heart rate is?

It's (221-Age)*.7
221 or 227 I think. Can't remember off the top of my head which number it is.

You can easily find your Target Heart Rate with this simple method.like (daem) said Subtract your age from 220 or 221 lol (226 for women) (why 220 i dont no lol )to calculate your Maximum Heart Rate.

Thanks for your replies. I can't remember the reason but I read in another thread that you should not do more than 45min of cardio or it actually starts doing more harm than good (starts breaking down muscle or something?) . Do you guy's agree with this?
