    Leg press/Squats

People say doing Leg Presses is the same thing as doing Squats.
Do you agree or disagree? And why

disagree... squats involve much much more musculature and requires more overall mental and physical effort... Squats are an integral part of total body growth, even more so if you are all natural like me

Squats are definately different then leg presses. With presses all you do is press the weight up and the machine guides it for you. With squats you have to balance and squat down and back up with the bar all by yourself. Leg presses have their place in a routine but you can't beat squats.

Squats are definitely better for you i think than leg press. i believe this because i can't squat what i leg press.

massripped i hate to be the one to break this to you but,

no exercise compares to the squat, you already asked about hack squats vs squats , now leg press vs squats, im on to your trix son. Your not getting out of doing the squats

just do the squats you'll feel alot better if you do

You guys are right, squats are the best excercise for mass. Leg press limits your range of motion and doesn't recruit nearly as many muscle fibers as squats. (I don't think any exercise does, maybe deadlifts)

hehe. I always do squats but was never sure if the hacks and leg presses could be a substitute because when you go heavy with squats(which i always do) its really easy to injure yourself one wrong move and you can be out for a while. Sometimes i get a little nervous. I always use the smith machine but still.

massripped my back is screwy too i hurt it along time ago doing squats
and all i did was lean foward a little bit (got off balance) and my back has never been the same after that

now when i squat i use light weight on the smith machine but i do them really slooooooow

i can still get a great burn even w/ light weight

my sports dr told me if i continue to squat i would not walk in 10 years cause of degenerative disk in low back---my answer i just lowered the weights and now dont usually squat over 405 for reps instead of 550 or so for 3 s. so far ok but i usually do squats 1 week then leg press the next

cant stop squating completely they make you too big and i love them

What are peoples thoughts on front squats rather than the standard?
You are the master of your body, take control and sculpt it.

front squats are great to switch off with 'regular' squats. i would actually recommend investing in a sting ray if you were going to go such a route, i usually have a hard time resting the weight when doing front squats.
