I have had the same problem..I took it easy for a few weeks, then before every chest workout I do major stretching and warm-ups. Light weights, swinging my arms around, rotator cuff stretching...also glucosamine helps with joint pain.

Charles Poliquin has some excellent advice of rotator cuff strengthening. Check it out at t-nation.com. From the bench pressing, my guess is that your internal rotators, of the shoulder, have become too strong for your external rotators. Poliquin gives a good strength ratio for the internals and externals. If you increase you external rotator strength, Poliquin says that it will increase your bench as well! This makes sense since your externals work as stabilizers during the bench. If you're foundation is stronger, you'll move more weight and have less pain (maybe none if you have a balanced ratio).

If you decide to see a doctor, make sure that you see a sports medicine shoulder specialist. Regular doctors can be a jack of all trades and a master of none. No disrespect to regular docs, though, because they are highly intelligent human beings. It's just that the specialists have seen situations like yours more times than we can count. Good luck, bro.
