    Is it supposed to hurt this much after deadlifts?

    I would say, yes. If it was you lower back, then you would have something to worry about. Deadlifts really involve the hip extensors, the glutes and hamstrings. Great work, most people say it makes their back sore. That's because they are not stabilizing properly with their lower back.

    He is saying maintain lumbar lordosis or a slight arch in your low back throughout the movement.

    When people keep a slight arch in their lower back, if they lose a little of the arch, during the peformance of the deadlift they will still be in a neutral alignment. Lose this neutral alignment, during the deadlift, and it's most likely your lower back will be killing you the next day. Watch out for any flexion of the spine!
