deadlifts on leg or back day?

I have seen alot of people doing deadlifts on back day, I personally do them on leg day, should i be doing it on back day or caould you do a full deadlift on leg and then a straight leg deadlift on back day?

I'd personally go for full deadlift on back day only. Deadlift is hard on the CNS (Central Nervous System) and recovery is long with that exercise. If you wanna do it straight legged too, do it on leg day and go for high reps (20-25 range) light weight.

I agree with ReX357, even though I don't use stiff-legged deadlifts in my routine.

remember its called stiff legged deadlifts, not STRAIGHT leg deadlifts!! a friend of mine messed his lower back up keeping his legs straight coz he thought it was called that!! fool!

but yeah, standard deadlifts on back day!

I agree back day as well, because you can usually get some hamstring work in with the deadlifts and you don't need that to interfere with the leg workout on the same day.

Deadlifts are a back excercise, the best back exercise for that matter IMO.

i think it can be argued either way, but most preffer to do it on back day. If you want a variation try using dumbells. Believe me that really hits the legs!

i was always under the impression that if you are doing them correctly dead lifts should work back minimally. I do them on a leg day only do a couple of sets but they are slow and make the legs burn, not back. only time i feel them in my back is when i am doing weight that is too heavy.

hmm... I have been doing stiff legged deads on the same day I do quads and hams. I was doing a upper leg / lower back split (deads+hyperextensions), but I think I'll change that for next week based on the popular opinion of this thread. Thanks for the information
