I have never heard of them. Do they prevent wrist flexion and/or extension?

When your wrist is in full extension, and you perform a curling movement, the biceps are more heavily recruited. Learned that technique from Paul Chek.

I would use a neutral wrist position for the majority of your exercises. If you would like more isolation of the biceps, like on concentration curls or preacher curls, give it shot and see if you feel a better pump in your biceps. The only way to see if it's effective for you is to experiment. I wouldn't use this technique with heavy resistance exercises like barbell curls; it's more for isolation work.
