Medium or wide grip lat pulldowns

I usually do close grip and wide grip lat pulldowns. However, when I do wide grip lat pulldowns I feel I don't get a deep range of motion. That's because I keep my hands as wide as they can go on the bar.

My question is, would I be better off using a medium grip for wide grip lat pulldowns? That way I will get a better range of motion, thus working the lats more.

    What do you guys think?

going to close in just puts more of the work on the biceps...going too wide just hurts and doesnt feel right for me plus i cant do as much weight...just a tadbit wider than where the bar curves is what is comfortable for me.

There's been a few research studies shown that wide grip front lat pulldowns produce the best muscle growth for the back. This was tested against close grip lat pulldowns and wide grip back lat pulldowns.

I prefer a wide grip, you could be going to wide, when you do you loose range of motion ,,

wide is the best way to go. But not too wide, b/c then you'll be working more the brachialis (sp?)-out bicep.

Vary it up, though. shock the muscles. see what works for you.

Place your hands right outside of shoulders width. Nice results. That has also helped increase my reps when it comes to wide grip chins.

It seems that everyone thinks using a slightly more than shoulder width grip for wide grip lat pulldwons is the way to go.

Yeah bro, I'd do wide more often than anything else, but of course, you want to vary up your routine from week to week

I did wide grip lat pulldowns with the d-hooks bar today. Not only did I feel it it my lats, but my rear delts and bis got a nice little pump too.

a new study shows that wide grip pull downs to the front, palms facing out, builds the best back width opposed to any other variation of it, i.e. pull down behind neck, close grip..etc.
