    do deadlifts properly??

    hey guys,

i was just wondering something about when i do deadlifts and if i am doing them right. I push up through the hams and glutes, and straighten up with good form. i was just wondering tho, do i need to lean backwards when i have pulled the bar up all the way? i just pull up til i am straight, but i have seen people pull up then lean back, almost as though they are using their traps as well?

whats the best way to do this?

    thanks for any help

(hope it wasnt too poorly explained!)

pulling back puts a lot of strain on your back because not only do you have weight, usually a good amount of weight, but you are off balance leaning backward, your center of gravity is now behind you, and you have gravity pulling your upper body back and down...(if you can picture what im saying). too much risk, no need. if you are doing it because the weight isnt enough, then add weight. but i would not suggest leaning backwords.

When you come up you should pull your shoulders bacxk and thrust your chest out at the top, but as of really leaning back no. Deadlifts are supposed to involve your traps.

Yeah, if you don't pull your shoulders back that is what can lead to injury. Shoulders should not be rounded at the top of the deaflift

I believe this is the episode where he talks about deadlifts.

    http://thefitshow.com/week11/week11_1lg.htm

I've been doing them for a while now and when I change to this way, I got so much more a burn than I did before.

It basically states that you spread your arms out wider than you would normally and flare your lats out the entire time. That way the weight keeps tension on your lats.
You have to drop your weight with this way though.
