Do deadlifts build your hamstrings?
Does anyone feel that deadlifts effectively build your hamstrings?

they get sore everytime i do deadlifts so i would imagine so...especially if you do them right and your starting point almost looks like you are sitting down.

Yes, hamstrings and glutes and 2 of the secondary muscle groups involved amongst others.

Yes, even regular deadlifts make my hamstrings ache. After deadlifts, I do stiff-legged underhand rows so that stiff-legged deads aren't necessary. So deads and rows are enough for mine to ache everytime and grow.

Romanian deadlifts are great for the hamstrings and are used by many for this.

yes, and alot of people feel that romanian dead's, if done safely, are safer than SLDL's.
regular dead's will work you hamstrings, but aren't really a hamstring exercize per se, like one you'd use if they were too small and wanted to bring them up.

To answer your question, yes the work the hams, but not as well as stiff legged dead lifts (which shouldn't really be stiff, but as close as possible to lock out.)

I use almost exclusively different variations of deads and squats to work my hams. Leg curls and similar crap exercises dont do much to me(excepted seated leg curls for some reason they rock).

I agree Johan, however, you don't get a good workout with lying leg curls? I get the best hammy workouts from wide stance squats and lying leg curls.

Squating, deadlifting, romanian deads, straight leg deads is all I need for quads and since my goal is strenght those exercises are obvious chooises. Hamstring curls doesnt make my squat or deadlift go up at all.

Well, you're 100% right, doing the compounds will help add more mass and strength than any isolation movement. Different things work for different people. I hate seated leg curls cuz I feel it in my joints and not in the muscles. Even after I adjust the machine. I guess it really depends on many factors, like height and bone structure. But do whatever works best for you not what others tell you to do.

Yeah. it all depends on the design of the particular machine aswell.
BTW bro if you havent done glute ham raises they are the BEST hamstring isolation exercise there is. If my gym had a glute ham bench I would do em everyday

But i rate lying leg-curls as my number one hamstring exercise.
imo deadlifts are to hamstrings what the bench press are to triceps
