i do the clean and jerk quite often. I started off only doing 135 for 3.
Now, 3 months later i can hit 205 for 2 reps. Its the only exercise that makes my shoulders really sore. Also builds alot of explosiveness. Try doing it after bench. It takes me a week to recover. I love em!!

A little history for the clean and press, The clean and press was an olympic lift along with the snatch and, clean and jerk, They decided to drop the lift because of the stress placed on the lower back.(the lifters backs were so arched that it looked almost like a standing bench press).
The clean is a good lift in it self but when you learn good form and technique you'll be able to clean more than you could press, unless you change to push presses or jerks. I do just cleans alone. You could add a seperate pressing movement afterwards.

Okay, someone educate me here. What is "clean and press"?? I have heard of it before, but never heard a good description of what the lift really is. Maybe someone else out there doesn't know either?! Thanks in advance bros.

Ohhhh Yeah! I remember those! Haven't done them in many, many years. Seems like my mind blocked those out, probably a self-preservation technique.
Okay, I might try working those into my routine - maybe! What days are you guys doing these, shoulders or back or legs? I might have to start off with my curl bar, or an empty straightbar on those. lol I remember them being one hell of a lift!
Thanks for the info guys!

Right now when I am doing bbing I do them as my first shoulder exercise on shoulder day.
When I hit westside again Im going to do them after my speed benches and primary triceps exercise.
