    Wise to train when still stiff/sore?

    I began training this week after 2 weeks off. My chest and bi's are still sore, but today is Shoulders and Tri's day. I hate to think I am slacking, so I need to know if it's good for me to train while I am still sore/stiff from my chest/bi work out. Should I just warm up until I don't feel so stiff? Or should I rest and wait until they are recovered? I don't want to overtrain.

    i usually train through my sorness if i know im sore from my workout , and not an injury..

    warming up helps and as you increase the weight and move through your exercises you will strech the muscles and the sorness will go away

    after a few days all the sorness will be gone

    You should always thoroughly warm up no matter what. On being sore, I usually judge it from week to week. If my chest is still too sore for shoulders I switch leg day with that body part and so on.

    I agree with the bros above. As long as it is just "soreness", then spend special attention to warming up. I always feel less sore after I go ahead and do my workout. Definitely seems to work out some of the soreness. Sucks at first, but I feel really "pumped" after such workouts. The soreness to me is just telling me that I am doing good workouts!!!!

    It boils down to recovery. I'm not one who likes training chest with any other part that opposes, for example biceps. It's easier to overtrain especially if you follow up a workout like that with back and triceps. Since you worked your tris/delts as synergists with your chest. So if you're upper body is sore and have not had at least 48 hours (or more dependant on your sleep and eating habits) you better look to training legs instead. Otherwise start grouping your training by function ie. chest/delts/triceps, back/biceps, quads/hams/calves. That will guarantee at least 3 days between training each bodypart.

    I can't believe you guys! Never train a sore muscle. If the muscle is still sore, it hasn't recovered yet. You are going to train a muscle that is already broken down? If it hasn't repaired itself, and you break i down again, it won't repair itself to the same level.

    You build muscle by breaking it down. The body repairs it just a little bit stronger each time so that it can handle the strain the next time it is put under the same stress. By breaking it down before it is repaired, you just lowered the level it will repair itself to.

    Hey Superbeast,

    He's not asking to directly train the same sore muscle. His chest and bi,s are what's sore and he's asking if okay to train shoulders and tris. I understand they will get somewhat indirect usage, which is what I was referring to, which in my experience, helps workout some of the soreness.

    If I didn't work out the next day because I had a sore muscle somewhere in my body, shit I wouldn't get to work out but 1 day a week! Is this what you are saying?

    I do agree he could move his workout around to minimize the indirect training as much as possible. But, to me, soreness is a sign of building.

    Just my nickels worth.

    totally agree with Superbeast's post, but on the other hand, doing shoulder workout when having biceps soreness isnt bad IMO

    just stretch i think thats the only way to get over sore ness . some times glutamine will help
