Here is another thread about belts, in case you wanted more opinions.

    http://67.18.108.244/showthread.php?t=206004

I will end up wearing one on back day once I get stronger, otherwise I won't.

I used to use a belt, but I didn't feel comfortable with it, so I quit using it. I feel I have more control without the belt. I just make sure that I am aware of keeping good posture on any lifts and that my form is good to avoid injury.

Big strong abs, obliques and powerful transverse abdominus muscles will help reduce the need for a belt. A belt can be restrictive on breathing which is somewhat annoying

If you don't have back issues, you are only cheating yourself.Same goes with straps(well they are beneficial at times).

Hey at least on leg day's the machines are free. They can curl and bench all they want but they won't grow
*edit I also include the squat rack on legs day's unless some dumba** is using for curls. Then I just want to f*** them up.*

Ok, don't want to sound too girly now but I actually do wear gloves (luckily I workout at home and not in the gym) I feel uncomfortable about wearing gloves in the gym and it doesn't bother me at home. The reason I wear them though is my skin on my hands is so soft that the grip on the barbell and dumbbells tears up my skin. Since I use almost all freeweights I don't really get any relief from machines. I have tried to hammer through it but eventually my hands just get so sore that I end up having to take a week or so off just so my hands will heal and I can start lifting again. I know this isn't the case with all women but apparently I just have too soft of hands that don't want to adjust.... ok guess I can see why you called men that wear them gay

Some have made the argument that by wearing a belt, you don't allow the lumbar section of your beck develop proprly because you end up babying it with the belt. Something to think about.

i believe the logic behind it is that wearing a belt will recruit less of your abs and obliques, and will help prevent them from becoming too bulky and ruining your v-taper

that said, i wear a belt when deadlifting, doing squats and rows

i have never worn gloves and i have some hardcore callouses on my hands, i've never worried about them but the ladies don't seem to like feeling my callouses scrape their soft skin when i'm rubbin on em

Really??? If I date a guy, once I find out he has soft hands, there are no more dates. Callouses tell me that the guy knows how to work with his hands no pun intended there) and I have never been interested in a guy who doesn't work out or work at a blue collar job.

I used to wear a belt but after I had lower back surgery in 03 due to a car accident, I stopped wearing it to help strengthen the area. I got much stronger in the lower back without it and haven't worn it since with no problems...

As for gloves I love 'em. I wear them at work, too. Does it make me a punk? He-he...see you at the top.

Soft hands on a girl? Perfect! You keep wearing those gloves and if you need some company or a workout partner, you let me know. Don't take any shit from anyone about it either. The (second to) last thing I want touching me is some pretty girlie with man hands.

I don't use gloves or a belt but I do get a kick out of the guys who come out of the locker room with the belt cinched tight, and leave it that way for their whole workout, esp tri pushdowns!

I have been known to use straps, sometimes you just have to.
