Opinions on how many exercises/sets are needed to completely exhaustmuscles
I am currently on the routine of:
Monday-chest
Tuesday-Back
Wednesday-arms
Thursday-legs
Friday-shoulders
I have been trying to work one muscle group per day in order to achieve maximum growth, but feel I need to mix it up with a new 5 day routine. Any suggestions. Also, I feel that I may be overworking each muscle by doing around 7 to 10 exercises per muscle with probably close to25 sets. Is this too much. I want to gain mass and eat my face off yet still haven't been gaingin the weight. Thanks for the suggestions

thorough exhaustion does not equal progress.
7-10 exercises per muscle group?
That's excessive.

7-10 does seem a little execessive..
Try changing the order of the execises..
Maybe even do some drop sets.. works for me on leg and back day

Personally I think four excercises is more than enough to totally exhaust anything.

too many sets too many exercises,i would do 3 compound movements like flat bench, dips(weighted if poss)and incline bench(dumbells or barbell) and maybe flys or peckdeck but i only do compounds now.use enough intensity and youll find its plenty enough.

I just do 9-12 sets on 3-4 exercises and I cannot lift anymore than that.

do 2 compounds and (depending on your experience) throw in one isolation. You don't need to do 6,7 or 8 exercises! There may be 8 you like to do so just rotate your routine every week so you will do each exercise every couple a weeks.
Try the Ironman HIT routine and you'll see how bad you can destroy your muscle with only 1 exercise that consists of only 3 working sets.
I've been lifting for 12 years, juiced to the gills at 240 lbs. with about 10% body fat and it kicked my ass!
I used to think like the others. Now I just do minimal work and keep growing bigger and stronger every week.
