    Arrow Jogging/running decreases muscle mass?

Is this true? I know sprints are okay but Ive always heard running for very long will decrease muscle...

Im just wanting to get into shape to play rugby...but I was hoping to keep my size...

You could take some amino's and glutamine befroe your run that will help fight off the catabolism.

there's been quite a few threads on this, in particular about sprints…do a search…but yes, sprints are more than ok, they are great for maintainign mass and part of the training rugby players do! I've posted a cpl of threads in relation to quesitons about rugby training.

and yes essentially, u can do 15-20mins worth of sprints 2-3 x per week without losing size and as logn as you manage the intensity.

go to http://magazine.mindandmuscle.net and look up Loki's articles on sprints.

I think it has more to do with your Carb intake prior to excercising and your overall calorie intake for that particular day, not the activity.

I used to think this, but look at how Kevin Levrone used to look, and ran all the time.

Excessive running will burn both fat and muscle. Period. Which is why so many people tha just jog all the time hae that emaciated look about them, or wonder why they lose weight but still look crappy ie. they're body composition doesnt change much.

For rugby players, what's important is sprints/interval training, together with a solid weight training regime of squats, cleans, bench/overhead press, push presses, high pulls, deadlifts etc. Don't believe it? Then google it and see how rugby players train. Nuff said.

i'm going to bump this. i'm curious since i started doing spin classes to get my legs into shape. my heart rate is 162 average for 50 minutes, maxing out at 184, never dropping below 150 on resting intervals.

i try to carb up before i go. i'm also curious about afterwards meals though.

weights - yeah, dex, malto, whey, creatine. but this is more than just weights or some fat burning pre-breakfast cardio.
