Shrugs?
Hey everyone. I have a question about shrugs. I've been doing them for about 6 or so years now. I haven't done them in a while cause I took them out of my shoulder routine for a while, and my traps are a nice size too. Anyway, when I used to do shrugs I would do about 4 sets working my way up in weight and I would use heavy weight with them. And I would do high reps like within the 10-20 range. So, is that too many reps to do with high weight for shrugs or should I treat this exercise like others doing a 6-12 range? Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if anyone replies to this post. Thanks.

Trapz are a high-tolerant muscle group, like your calves and forearms, so IMO I think you should keep them at high reps. Then neurons may need a little more push to grow, soooooo, keep the reps high and get a good squeeze and badaboom badabing. IMO....

I usually train my traps with high reps(12-20), but I will occcasionaly go a bit heavier than usual and lower the reps (8-12). I find that you just have to find out what works best for you, though it may take a while to find out what works!!

it all depends on the person, one person can get away with doing 20 reps for each set of a trap exersice, and have huge traps, and another guy just does low reps, and has huge traps...u just gutta find whats right for your body, and what your body responds to best..

just stick to 10-15 reps, 4 sets, medium weight (1) to heavy weight (3)

FORGET THE WHIMPY HIGH REPS
I'm with Traps1125. Everytime I train my delts, I perform about 4 sets of straight arm lat raises (about 10-12 reps). Then I finish my delts with 4 sets/low reps of shrugs on the Hammer Strength machine. Traps are the 2nd largest muscles in the back and, therefore, require hard training.

Eat like a biatch and don't just hit your trapz with shrugs. Modify some exercises so they hit 'em. Try doing behind the neck pull downs with a close grip. Work well for me. Another thing is to also try working out your neck so it fills in the back IMO. Check out WCW ex-wrestler Goldberg. Dude had awesome traps and a huge neck. From behind, it looked like his neck pulled his traps up. Just a thought to help out bro, take it all in stride...

don't forget upright rows, they help build up your traps too!
