I used to do them every day. 17 years ago when I was 15 and didn't have any place to workout I would do 3 sets of 50 every day. Got some nasty stretch marks from it. They have since faded. Now all I do is about 1 set of 30 declines with pushup bars from the second step. Just enough to warm up before doing flat and incline bench.

i did 100 in a contest in highschool. i was doped up on something like 6 times the recommended dosage of creatine at the time...=)
-clocky baby
P.S. now i can prolly do like 40. but remember, 1 rep strength is much difference than endurance strength...=)

Yeah, the marks were from my soulders down to the edge of my chest. You would have to understand how skinny I was and how fast I put on size there. I think when I was 15 I was about 5'11 and 125 lbs.
I ended up at 6'4 by 19 and was around 160. That's why I am happy to be at 200-205. Still trying to put on weight. I have tried the see food diets, etc. I have to avoid cardio or I drop 15 lbs in the blink of an eye.
Oh and I am predisposed genetically for stretch marks, my mother was one of those people who had them all over from pregnancy.

What do you think is better endurence strenght or rep strenght ?

Endurance is down to the ratio of anaerobic / aerobic oxidation - if the amount of anaerobic oxidation is significant then over time glycogen stores will be depleted and aerobic oxidation will take over to be the main contributor. At some point in this down hill path you'll no longer be able to output the force needed to complete a rep and it's set over.
I had a press-up competition with the local fitness orientated chap I knew at the gym when I was at uni. He was very fit - could run miles and was still pretty strong. He did something like 70 or 80 reps. I stopped at 100 - barely out of breath. Boy was he pissed off! LOL
So how come I beat him when he was so much more aerobically fit than I was?
Motor unit rotation!!
At sub-maximal loads (but high enough to require fast twitch muscle fibre motor units [bundles of muscle fibres that contract as one] to be needed) fast twitch motor units will take it in turns to contract - hence giving each other time to rest. This lasts as long as there are motor units fresher than others looking to 'take a break', and also depends on the percentage of the units required to be contracting at any point.
So I had either fewer units contracting, more total units, greater glycogen reserves or a combination of these.
Still beat him either way. lol

The last time I did push-ups was about 7 years ago for a police academy agility exam. To qualify, I was only required to do 17 (they went by age qualification) but I gave them 31.
I know that it's not much but it was actually the 2nd most push-ups done by anyone there. The most done was 75 and the guy had just gotten out of the military.

police/military pushups are different from what most of you ppl are doing. they keep your elbows close to your body to put mor emphasis on the triceps

Of course it's my pic!! Surf in the Gulf Coast sucks!! But every once in a while you get a nice ground swell, or when a storm is coming, then its badass!! I'm not going to lie though, I'm not that great at it. I'm more into Wakeboarding and Motocross

I've done 85. 60 in a row with perfect form. I have a problem with my shoulder and anymore than 60 starts to hurt like hell.

I honestly never tried to see what my max is... but on my day off the gym (wednesday evening) I'll usually do 4 sets of 25 while watching TV (during commercials ).
Just makes me feel better, don't feel like I completely wasted the day.
