    Cardio Question

Ok I know to lose fat/weight, you need to do cardio and diet.
My question is, I have a friend that works out with me, he has bad legs, it hurts for him to run. What alternative cardio excerises are there that are good that is not alot of pressure or stress on the legs?

    Thanks!!!

Anything that supports his knees. So there isn't any sudden impact - like when running. Most equipment in gyms are geared for low impact cardio... an exception obviously being a treadmill.

Why does he have bad legs?

My joints hurt really bad from years of running as a fat ass so I now have to do either the eliptical thing or incline walk, you could also use the bike but I never get a good fat burning workout on that thing. Both of these will be fine for the legs.

    Hey there ASnoobie,

I walked off 40 pounds in about 4 months, 5 miles per day. Wlaking does not hurt like running.

    I hope this helps.

I'm impressed and congradulate you Bobbo. But isnt that like 2 hours a day?

Also, I hear people say do cardio 30-45 mins a day. Is it ok to break it up for example 2 15 minute sessions?

    Thanks for the input!!!

I feel his pain... I've played sports all my life and have lots of problems with my knees; I use the elliptical for cardio without any aggrivation.

    Hey there ASnoobie,

I'm no pro but I always read that if your cardio is any less than 20 minutes there's not much of a loss. Weather this is true or not I'm not sure.

As far as the 5 miles, it took me about 1 1/2 hours, fast pace, if my mind serves me correctly. I had been on allot of meds for years and weined off in 12 days. I was a nervous wreck and had to walk it off just to calm myself and dropped 40 pounds while doing it. To my advantage I have 50 times more energy than ever before and began lifting. Now that I have the energy and feel better than ever I make it a point to stick with hitting the gym 3 days per week. Man what a different life/body!

I'm in the same boat as gymchic. I do the elliptical or fast paced walking with little to no pain.
