Do stomach vacuums work?
Anyone do these to get a tighter, slimmer waistline? Good results?

Video:
In case you were thinking it was some sort of device, it's not; it is an exercise that is meant to tighten the waistline. You know how some people have a ripped stomach, but it still kind of sticks out? Well, this is meant for 'deflating' the stomach, giving you a smaller waste.

What does that even accomplish
Tried it, cramped up my back

All it really does is emphasise the transverses abdominis muscles (the deep abdominal muscles). Vacuuming for a tighter waist is a theory that some swear by, however there is no proof it's actually going to make your waist smaller.

I feel like Lance Armstrong here with this "anology".
You know what worked for me?
15 months of agony
2 appencicitis attacks, one ended up with a burst appendix and needing emergency surgery
1 massive lung infection
1 bout of intestinal infection brought on by drinking polluted water
1 hernia operation
I dropped almost 50 pounds and now down to a 34" waist line.
Even though this is true, just kidding about recommending this to anyone. It was a friggin nightmare!

I would say it works if you have poor posture. A lot of people do just let their stomach stick out. I can see how it would help overall stomach form and keeping it tight/flat looking.

It will help keep your abdominal region tight and sucked in, you are working a different set of muscles that don't get direct attention. It definitely wont hurt, I do it once in a while, and always try to hold my mid section tight when doing cardio. Every once in a while I find that I release tension on my mid section and let it stick out, especially when my lower back is sore. I try to hold my gut in all the time, not flexing, just firm and flat instead of loose and sticking out.

Thanks, guys. Think I may give this a try for a few months to see if there's any truth behind it. If not, I'll try TR's approach. J/K...

Worked wonders for me... Definitely keeps the gut in a bit. Classic bodybuilders swear by it- Zane in particular.

according to this it's 36", but really who cares?! proportions are just right, and that's what matters.
