    deadlift + squat = overtraining?

I am starting to bulk up this week over a 12 week period. I have deadlift on back day and squat on leg day(spaced 3 days apart). Will having both of these lifts in my bulking workout week lead to overtraining and hinder my progress/gains. Nutritionally i am sound eating 6-7 meals a day ( every 3 hours). I am going heavy and intense with each, sets of 5x5.

Overtraining? Not at all. Now if you did them both twice a week, maybe. But you're good now as long as your lower back is either strong or you're starting off light.

I wouldn't try both in the same day .. but both in the same training program on different days of the week is perfectly fine, not to mention a great way to bulk up quick.

If you train both lifts heavy over a couple of weeks yes you will begin to overtrain.

You may get away with it for a coulpe of weeks but it'll catch up with you and both the lifts will suffer because you won't be able to recover.

That's why westside followers use the conjugate method. Simple fact is both these lifts use the same muscle groups for the most part and when trained heavy over a period of time will not recover properly.
