    Motivation problem??

Hey guys; Lately, I have no motivation to get my ass to the gym. I just don't feel like going, but when I get there it's OK. I just hate that feeling of lack of energy and motivation I had before. Do you bros get this. I tried coffee, redbull but nothing helps, it is in my head. Any suggestions what to do. It might be the heat, cause in the winter I seem to feel more gung oh.

Personally I like to have a training partner that way we motivate each other to go to the gym.

hey rxarms, I've got same problem last 2 weeks. I couldnt be able to focus. I don't know really how I solve this, but now I can focus. I feel good. I have given a short break and then everythings going well. Maybe you should try this. or maybe you should change your gym or trainer or partner. little changes brings big results I believe.

I know if i don't work out, i wont be banging all the hotties i have been. Just look at some porn, and think to urself, this is what i'll be slamming by going to the gym. Works for me every time.

I'll try different partner. Once I am there I am OK, I just lack that drive I had before. I think it is the heat or maybe a little depressed. Has anyone tried small dose of prozac, paxil, zoloft to get you more motivated and does it help your workouts.

OK heres what you do....... Right before your set have your training partner stand in front of you to spot. You scream loud "KICK ME IN THE BALLS!!!!" and have him go ahead and run your nuts into your mouth. Sure youll be hurtin for a little but after youll have the rage to lift anything. O and I think this will also stimulate some more test. production from those swollen gonads. hehe sorry I just had to have a laugh.

I got the same problem... it's gotta be the heat because in the winter I'm in top shape & can't wait to lift. Summer time, my diet goes to sh*t from the BBQ's, drinking and being sapped from the heat. I still get there though even if it's a half @ssed workout it's still better than no work out, I just go lighter w/ more reps. Xenadrine does wonders for motivation though!

Do ever get demotivated to shower or brush your teeth?

Ok, not quite the same thing - but if you think of it in terms of basic hygiene you can be more likely to not miss a scheduled workout.

Also - look into issues with your overall diet, nutritional support and any evidence of overtraining.

I get the same way, although I force myself to go. Sometimes though if it's been months since I have taken a week off I get this way. I just don't want to go to the gym and I just want to sleep all the time. SO I take a week off and rest, come back the next week fully charged.

Has something change in your life? Also Warrior pointed out the biggest problem of motivation - overtraining. This will kill motivation quickly.

Do whatever it takes to stay motivated out of the gym. Most people I know(myself included) are motivated as hell IN the gym, it's getting there that's hard.

Rent a movie with some big guys in it, i.e. the Program, Any Given Sunday, Preditor...

Listen to music right before and in the gym(Pantera, Slayer, Danzig)...if a person can't be motivated by metal music, I think there's something wrong with them.

Use negative experiences as a positive. Anyone ever tell you you were fat? skinny? small? Prove people wrong.

If all else fails, think about girls. There is a big debate and guys say you should workout for yourself and not girl, I totally agree, but just think, do girls want an out of shape slob or a big, ripped in shape guy?

    Now get 'er done!

Hitting the gym is like breathing to me.......fuckin' love going all the time. Can't wait to get there and have my muscles swell up with blood....nothing beats the pump.....

    How I stay motivated

I only train 3x/week....after 4 days off I dying to hit the gym
one bodypart per week.......I never really overtrain

If I'm on some supplements or Prohormones I get extra motivated

I'm a creature of habit......I'm 37 now been working out since 19 so it's a way of life for me......

what kind of comment is that? theres not a certain type of people the gym is made for. its made for everybody who wants to look better and feel better about themselves. just cause hes not feeling motivated doesnt mean he should stop doing it. even pro bodybuilders will feel unmotivated and skip workouts. not trying to be an asshole slick but just dont agree with what u said.

Thanks Khull; I hit the gym 2 hrs a day 5 days a week and I think slick is just stupid with his comment. It has been real hot in the 95-100's and that alone just wears you out, especially if you start to platue on your gains. I still force myself to go, but it is always better when you feel pumped and crazy.

Maximus, My goal is to bench 325-335 by the end of the year and I was seeing real great gains up until I hit 285. I have been stuck here for 3 months now and it is damn fustrating. I had some distractions in my routine and diet, but it shouldn't be that of a detriment. I have included negatives once a week in my routine. I am sure anyone would lose motivation if they did not see gains for that long.. I am thinking about a cycle, but want to loose some BF first. I am 34, 5'8 190.

How often do you switch up your routine? I do mine about every 2 months. If you have time...type out your routine...maybe there is a bug that needs to be worked out! Are you getting plenty of protein to grow? Maybe instead of hitting the gym 5 days a week...hit it 3...and put Chest/tris/shoulders one day....Back/Bis...another...Legs/calves/abs...another. Maybe the lack of progress is that your body is saying "I'm tired"..Just my .02~!

It has to be the heat RX. Calif has been in the 100s for two weeks and I cant work out until at least 11pm. By then, I just say fuck it. Last night I was all set to work out and then 10 minutes later I found myself going to sleep instead. I hate it.
Caffine like Mtn Dew or Ripped Fuel usually works but lately it hasnt.
Good work out music to get me in the mood helps.
110 degrees where I am at. It sucks
I dont know how AZ and NV people do it. Sure for the weekend 95 degrees is ok but how do they work out when it is 120 all the damn time.

its hard to get motivated to drag ur ass into the gym after a long days work in the heat. Thats why i love winter. But yo just listen to some crazy music on ur way and youll be fine once u get there. Change up your routine also.

Thanks guys, but I think I figured it out. Number one it is the heat and number 2 lack of carbs in the am. I usually eat very little carbs in the am. One day I ate some pasta and drank some fresh juice before noon and I was fired up. I am also going to mix uo the time I hit the gym. You all try that? Is it a good idea? Hey thanks for all the input,

Many of the above suggestions are excellent and I frequently use them myself. LIke coffee, ephedrine, red bull etc. However, they are all short term pick me up strategies.

Before you guys bombard me with with hate email calling me a 'girly man' or 'sissy boy', hear me out. I think one of the best ways to better your long term strategies, in any aspect of your life including weight training, is to read self help shit.

Books like 'As a Man Thinketh', 'The Greatest Salesman in the World' and other related works. You will learn to look and things in different ways and hear things you hadn't heard before. You can always disregard parts you don't agree with or like. Great books for developing and refining long term strategy.

one of the best motivators for me is looking at mags or even on here in the members picture section. gives me a great sense of what i'd like to achieve. also whether or not you agree with the plan in body for life, the book is a really really good read for motivational purposes.
