Isolation or Compund lifts?

A combination of both, although heavy compound movements are the base of my routine.

That is a hard one. I prefer compound movements, they tend to build overall strength, but if I get stuck and just can't get past a certain point (can't make a gain to be able to move up to more weight within a week or two), then I do concentration workouts for a week or two. That usually lets be blast right on past any sticking point when I go back to the compound movement.

Depends on what your goals are.

If you're looking for overall size go with compound movements.
If you're focusing on detail go with the isolation movements.

There's your answer.

I mostly do compound, I do a tad of isolation from time to time. I used to do a lot of isolation, but then i figured out isolation exercises do almost nothing for me. I haven't done an isolation exercise for my arms and so long. No curls for me :D, pullups, bent over rows, dips, and bench press for me :)

don't forget the mother and father combo of squats and deadlifts...

I heard that doing dumbell press, etc on a swiss ball, works both compound and isolated muscle groups, because you need every muscle that stabilises you to work while your balancing on that ball.

yeah but what happens if you fall off?

2 compounds to start, 2 isolations to finish.

A DB press can't be an isolation movement no mater how you do it. A press involves more than one muscle group.
