Only problem is my old gym played hard rock on the stereo , New gym play's gay backstreet boys type music . How the hell am i supposed to get pumped listening to britney spears. I cant wear headphones they just get in my way .

I listen to Rock and Roll when I want to relax. For the gym, its Pantera all the way. I mean come on, they have a song called Stronger Than All. I have yet to hear better music. Official Live, The Great Southern Treadkill, Far Beyond Driven, and Vulgar Display of Power are all great albums.

Originally, the gym I go to played hard rock and trance the whole time, which was great.
About 4 months ago, they thought it would be a nice idea to research what the punters would like when they're training. Now, Berkshire is not the best county for gym options, so we've quite a range of gym-goers, including a strong element from the "Blue Rinse" brigade.
The blue rinsers insisted the music was "too violent", and that young folk these days need a calming influence. Now when I go to the gym in the afternoon, the Blue Rinsers are walking (WALKING, for God's sake!) on the Power Joggers, and we all listen to Easy Listening, or a prehistoric Brit DJ called Jimmy Young (kind like Jonnie Carson on valium).
Be warned; this could happen to you too.
My plan is to sneek in an Iron Maiden CD, jack up the Vol, and induce a few coronaries, thereby elliminating the Blue Rinse problem entirely

My gym puts on talk radio in the morning and easy listening in the evening (at least I think they still do). Its forced me to have to buy headphones and play my own shit, I bring 2 CD's, one of heavy death metal for lifting one of trance for cardio. Only problem is I busted 2 portable Cd players in the span of 6 months at the gym. But give me Metallica for 60 minutes and I'll have a workout that leaves me twitching.

The 3 types of music that I listen to are metal, rap, and club. I used to listen to rap or club at the gym and I got a little tired of it, and there are some groups like Mobb Deep and Wu-Tang that get me pumped but I can't listen to it all the time, its gets boring and so does club. So, then look search around my room for the music I grew up listening to, Metal. I can't get enough of it at them gym. I love to listen to old Metallica(the first five albums), Slayer(I love most of their older shit, like Reign In Blood, South of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss, haven't really heard that much of their new shit), old Megadeth, old Testament, Morbid Angel, Mercyful Fate, and there's some other shit that I really can't think of now. But metal 99% of the time gets me pumped unreal.

Me and Drop Dead Fred are both country to the soul, but I have to agree with the majority here...Rock and Roll is the way to go when you want to get pumped...It's amazing what kind of effect it has on you...Our gym plays a lot of Brittany Spears type of music and it does nothing but piss us off and unmotivate us...I think we could get that extra pump if the sounds around us gave us an attitude instead of a teenage complex...

I have "The Greatest Themes from the films of AS", I recorded a mix MD with Anvil of Crom (looped), some Rob Zombie, some System F. Our PH gym music is OK, but if I really want to get into character, I play that MD...

My old gym used to play all that mixed garbage(i.e. spears, nsync, etc.). Headphones didn't work for me so I opted for ear plugs instead. My gym in college now doesn't play any music but I hate it cuz you hear all the people's ridiculous conversations of their love lives and what not. I trained at Ronnie Colemans' gym Metroflex last summer and they BLASTED hardcore metal like Prodigy and Rage Against the Machine, then Ronnie showed up and they started blasting hardcore rap. They play it so loud you have to yell to say something to someone and you can here the gym from the street (cuz its in an old bodyshop and they leave the doors open). It was the most hardcore gym I have ever been to and can't wait to go back this summer I love metal and hard rock particularly old Metallica but can't forget the classics like Rocky theme music- those songs are good because they make me think of Rocky training in the cold isolated mtns. of Russia, kicking some ass, and victory -"getting strong now!...pumping up now!...training hard now!" definately good music to warm up to before blasting the serious stuff.
