    Seated Cable Rows

I've seen people doing seated cable rows all kinds of different ways, some people sit with their backs rigid the entire time and only use their arms to pull the weight

i personally bend forward and use my back and arms to pull the weight towards me, it would seem that my way would utilize the back muscles more than the former method, and i have gotten some good gains

which way do you guys think is better?

That's the way I do them. Seems to have worked so far. I'm interested to see what others say about it, too.

i do it the same way as you bro....seems to me if you do them with a straight, stiff back, that youre using too much rear delt or another part of the arm

I do them stiff seated. If you rock you're using your lower back. Sure, you can handle more weight that way, but essentially you're just cheating yourself. You give the weight momentum when you use your lower back at the start of the movement while you straighten up, making it easier to pull the weight towards you.

When i want to work my lower back, i just do deadlifts.

yea i agree completly with chris. The only time when i bend forward is either when i cant do it anymore and i have to cheat my way out

Sorry don't agree with that CA.

Go forward and stretch your lats, get a full range of motion. End position should be seated straight up and down.

I do them using strict form - no back movement.

Looks like we have a couple of different schools of thought here.

I'll have to agree with CA.......stiff back the whole time and pull with elbows tucked in to side. I could go a lot heavier if I let my upper torso pull in but then I'd be using momentum for the contraction phase robbing myself in the process. I'm not saying what others do is wrong it's just the way I prefer to do them is all. Besides, I do these after deadlifts so I got nothing left in my lower back to offer assistance.

All the mags and videos I have read over the years have you leaning a bit forward and as you go back keep elbows in and squeeze at the top. It is essentially a reverse row.

Pull cable attachment to waist while straightening lower back. Pull shoulders back and push chest forward during contraction. Return until arms are extended, shoulders are stretched forward, and lower back is flexed foward. Repeat.

Arnold always preached the "moving back and forth" school of thought.

How bout what I do? Change it up every workout!!! Bingo problem solved!!!!!
