I just had a blood test done to establish a baseline prior to running an oral cyle this winter. My ALT is 42 and my AST is 38. Both are within the acceptable range per the lab, but running towards the high end of the range. This is of primary concern since those levels indicate some stress on my liver. I take prescription Singulair, Advair, and Flonase daily. In addition I use naproxen sodium (generic aleve) regularly. Could these meds be affecting my liver values? I'm wondering if I should run a liver support supplement (I have Perfect Cycle) starting now to try and get my liver values down prior to my planned start of my cycle on 10/29. My MCV (mean corpuscular volume) was 97, which is a little high too. I'm an endurance athlete and was wondering if the fact that I raced the day before my test could've affected the results. A high MCV is indicative of macrocytic anemia which is a vitamin B 12 and folic acid deficiency. The HCT was 45.7 and the RBC was 4.72, both of which are in the acceptable range per the lab. My MCH (mean corpuscular hemoglobin) is at the high end of the range at 33, which can indicate vitamin B 6 and folic acid deficiency. I avoid red meat in favor of lean poultry and fish plus whey protein isolate. I eat a lean steak once every 4-6 weeks. My total cholesterol was 120, triglycerides were 47, HDL 49, and LDL 62. That was up from my last test 3 years ago where total cholesterol was 102, triglycerides 48, HDL 43, and LDL 49. After the test 3 years ago I loosened up my diet because the cholesterol was so low.
On the WBC count I had a 7.4, which is fine. But my SEGS were high at 68 and my LYMPHS were low at 21. This could indicate an infection or immune system suppression. I did use prednisone over the summer, but it's been over 1 month since my last dose.
Feedback on these results would be welcome. I did a ton of research to try and interpret the results, but I hope I can get some input from someone with more knowledge. The self ordered test available at my local hospital didn't include endocrine function, but my libido seems normal for a guy in his mid 40's. I put my current results and those from 3 years ago into an excel spreadsheet for the sake of easy comparison, but I can't seem to attach that file type to this post.
Thanks.
