Blood testing in Canada
Hey guys ,
Just wondering what you Canadians do to get bloodwork? I know if I ask my doctor about blood work he will ask why and I don't want that on my public record?
I also can't seem to find anywhere to get private blood work done.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Public record?
I told my doctor exactly what I was doing and he agreed to do the precycle and midcycle BW. Naturally (scuse the pun) the midcycle results were out of range, which triggered a followup appt. My doctor agreed to another test which I will do postcycle.
I guess I've been lucky so far so I'd be interested in private testing for Canadians, particularly Ontarians.

It's my understanding that there is a public record that goes under your health card #. That's why doctors type on a computer while you are in an appointment with them. The only thing I'd be worried about is not getting some sort of coverage along the line because of previous use. Any insight on that?

I guess it depends on the doc. I told my doc I was considering a very unique diet and supplement program, but wanted to make sure my blood levels stayed normal throughout. She said to just fax her a list of what I want tested and she'd write scripts for whatever I needed.
I've heard of others having similar trouble to you and they just went to a walk in clinic. Apparently most will just give you what you need without much hassle.

Which province are you in? I am a lab tech and I could run some tests for you but I'm in Vancouver.
I can do; liver, kidneys, hormones, CBC, thyroid, etc. Let me know if you need any testing done.

What exactly are your credentials? Is this work done from your home or at a lab? I saw my family doctor yesterday and told him I was going to go on a cycle and wanted blood work and he said no saying he can't get involved. What do you charge for your services? I live in Vancouver. Please let me know here or pm me thanks!

This is a bit late but it honestly sounds like you need a new doctor or need to get a referral for an Endocrinologist. I can't speak for BC, but in Ontario we use Lifelabs and 99% of tests are covered by OHIP Health Card (few exceptions, IGF-1, Bio available test, etc) and the ones that are not free usually are between $35-80.00 I don't have any experience with private labs.
I can go to my Doctor at any time and ask for any bloodwork requisition and she will fill it zero questions asked. In Ontario atleast, Doctors get $$$ whenever they req BW and they can bill for the follow up as well. I wouldn't have told your family doctor about cycling - but since that ship has sailed not much you can do. Family medicine has a very broad scope so the average M.D. is going to have very little working knowledge which is where the endo comes into play.
