Sheriff Joe Arpaio (in Arizona) is doing it RIGHT!!: He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them. He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. He took away their weights. Cut off all but "G" movies. He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects. Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued for discrimination. He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only let in the Disney channel and the weather channel. When asked why the weather channel he replied, so they will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs. He cut off coffee since it has zero nutritional value. When the inmates complained, he told them.....this is a good one......"This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back." He bought Newt Gingrich' lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

More on the AZ Sheriff. With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record), the Associated Press reports: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbed-wire-surrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to their government-issued pink boxer shorts. On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached 138 degrees inside the week before. Many were also swathed in wet, pink towels as sweat collected on their chests and dripped down to their pink socks. "It feels like we are in a furnace," said James Zanzot, an inmate who has lived in the tents for 1 1/2 years. "It's inhumane." Joe Arpaio, the tough-guy sheriff who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to wear full battle gear, but they didn't commit any crimes... so shut your ------ mouths."

Exactly. If I was homeless....with no end in sight...I would go break a law that would get me a few years in jail, free schooling, 3 squares, cable tv, computer access, etc. Beats eating out of a dumpster and living in a cardboard box!

yea i've seen a lot of specials on this guy...some love him, some hate him...i think the making them all wear pink sox was great, basically he's one who believes these people are their to be punished and it shouldnt be 'cushy' living situations

But are they there to be punished or reformed?? I think that is at the root of it. Personally I think that unless you have some sort of mental instability, which we should be on the look out in prison for, that the punishement meted out should be as harsh as what it will take to keep you from committing another crime. IF there is no difference between prison and your world outside of prison except for the sex aspect than you will continue to commit crimes against society.

Using steriods is a risk u guys take ( i say u guys cause im still natty ). If i do choose to use them, or commit any other crime, then I would accept that sort of treatment. I know these consequences before makin possible illegal choices as does everyone else so if I or anyone else ends up going to a jail like this, there is no one to blame but myself (urself). I still like this guys train of thought.

As for the second post on Arpaio being investigated, im not sayin he didnt, because i really have no clue, but someone will ALWAYS try to find dirt on another person to get some F'in attention or to get this guy fired because they dont share his views.

As for those who engage in performance enhancing drugs....I don't necessarily agree that the government should prevent that activity. With that said.....you and I both know that those who engage in that activity do so knowing full well what the outcome could be.

The food can't be so good @ 40 cents a serving.I wonder if it meets nutritional requirements?So do the prisoners starve if they have no money to eat?Living in 130 degree heat seems rather harsh to me.I'm sure the inmates aren't the most jolly bunch of guys.Granted,prison isn't suppose to be a joy ride,but I don't agree with this assholes tactics at all.seems like he's causing more aggression than rehabilation.

I dont think they should differentiate levels of crime like iron fist said. thats likes saying all drug peddlers and thiefs can live inside with ac and a better meal but all victim involed crimes will live in tent city. A crime is a crime and your tax paying money is paying for the upkeep of these institutions. If he is cutting corners and saving us money then it is all good for AZ.

Ok weed is a soft drug and you probably don't see the big deal about going to a dealer for your blow, but what about the next customer who's going to him to get smack, after mugging an old lady for their smack money?.. Nah, I'm pretty hardcore on crime. Sounds like the guy's got things nailed. If I was the victim of crime and knew my assailant was locked up under those conditions I'd be jumping for joy.

I have a vet owner in TJ that buys my gear legally down there, smuggles it to the USA for me, and ships it to me...I then take my cycle and gain 10lbs. No one gets hurt in the process...I don't do any other drugs but I am 100% against steroids being illegal. **** bushs' Dad for making them illegal

There WAS a sheriff down here in NC that painted the jail cells pink. He was later charged with embezzlement. Go figure

To be honest. I never sang a different tune in any of the charges I have on my record. Even though I think some of the charges are B.S. i was always willing to accept the issue at hand and the consequences that came with it. Sorry bro!
